Hello and welcome!
Welcome to Crafting Fashion, your online source for information on cutting and sewing sweater knit fabrics. Hi there! I'm Olgalyn Jolly a/k/a O! Jolly!, owner of the Crafting Fashion blog. I'm a designer of knit textiles and knitwear living in NYC. Formerly, I taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I currently teach at Parsons School of Design. On this blog you'll find techniques and tips for cutting and sewing sweater knits. I post some of my in progress and completed projects. There are some helpful tutorials, too.
If you prefer to learn with a step by step, in-depth approach, my How to Cut and Sew a Sweater online workshop may be just what you're looking for. In my course you'll learn the foundation techniques for working with this stretchy and sometimes challenging fabric. Garment industry methods are translated for the home sewing environment. My online course will soon open again for enrollment. Please join the list for further information and to learn when registration begins.
Though sweater knits are sometimes unstable and unwieldy, I think that sweater knits are beautiful, versatile, and the most wonderful fabrics with their amazing properties of stretch and texture. With just a little practice, a person can create a gorgeous sweater, even if they can't knit or crochet.
Have you been searching for high quality sweater knits? The fabrics I've designed and developed are knitted locally at mills in the New York City area -- natural cottons, dyed cotton, and luxurious wool. They're available for purchase in my online shop.
